The VA has now recognized that veterans may be at an increased risk for developing mesothelioma, a cancer associated with exposure to asbestos fiber. 

 Recently released statistics from the US Geological Survey brings some hope to reducing asbestos disease in the US. 

The International  Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), which is part of the World Health Organization (WHO) classified diesel engine exhaust as carcinogenic to humans (Group 1), based on sufficient evidence that exposure is associated with an increased risk for lung cancer. 

A lawsuit was filed alleging that a former pharmaceutical maintenance specialist at Hoffman-LaRoche in Nutley, New Jersey, was exposed to asbestos fiber and suffers from asbestosis.

Employees are also likely to be exposed during the manufacture of asbestos products (such as textiles, friction products, insulation, and other building materials) and during automotive brake and clutch repair work.

The United States Supreme Court ruled that damages can be awarded to an individual for fear of contracting cancer due to exposure to asbestos fiber at work.

Resolution of an asbestos claim may involve several avenues: litigation (individual or consolidated with other cases), a class action, a court-approved settlement, an administrative claim or settlement, or a claim filed in bankruptcy.
